NAFTA Certificate Renewal Time
It is time to renew your 2012 Blanket NAFTA Certificates of Origin.
To claim NAFTA benefits, we ask that a properly completed NAFTA Certificate of Origin be in our possession no later than December 1st, 2011 to avoid any lapse of NAFTA coverage. It is against Customs regulations to claim the NAFTA preferential duty rate when a valid certificate is not available at the time of import.
To ensure that you are protected against customs assessed penalties, Buckland will not use the NAFTA preferential duty rate on your imported goods unless we have received a valid NAFTA Certificate of Origin at the time of import.
The Certificate is a legal document and should be signed by someone who has full knowledge of the NAFTA rules and regulations. Consistent with the recordkeeping requirements, certificates must be maintained for the six years in Canada and for five years in the US.
We would like to advise that it is Buckland’s policy not to request a NAFTA Certificate of Origin for duty amounts less than $25.00. Please contact us if you have any concerns in regards to this general policy and you would like your requests handled differently.
