Step 1

All Canadian importers are required to have a Business Number. If you have not already applied for one, you can download the REQUEST FOR A BUSINESS NUMBER (BN) form by clicking here or by visiting the appropriate Revenue Canada Business Registration website link.

Most Canadian businesses are also required to be registered to collect and remit the federal Goods and Services Tax (GST). If you have not already registered for the GST you can find out more about your GST tax obligations by clicking here to download Revenue Canada's General Information Guide for GST/HST Registrants

NOTE: Depending on the specific products you will be importing or exporting certain additional registration procedures may be required by other government departments (e.g., Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Agriculture Canada, etc.) prior to undertaking your import/export activities. Once we are aware of the actual products you will be trading in (see Step 2) we can advise you of any other governmental requirements that might apply to your particular situation.

Obtain your Business Number, GST Registration Number and any other relevant information concerning your business including standard financial/banking information, so that we can complete all aspects of your account set-up and credit application without delay.

Step 2

Prepare a detailed outline of the various products you will be importing and/or exporting, along with a reasonable estimate of the transaction volumes and projected dollar values involved according to your company's most recent sales forecast.

For convenience, you can utilize the New Importer/Exporter Summary Information Sheet provided here, which includes all of the foregoing data elements.

NOTE: This information will assist us in determining the estimated outlays of duty and tax that will have to be made on your behalf. If you have technical literature or brochures covering the goods in question, these will also be extremely helpful to us in determining the correct HS tariff classification and duty rate applicable to your goods.

Step 3

Download the General Agency Agreement (GAA) and Credit Application here and print them off.

Complete these forms utilizing the applicable business information gathered in Step 1).

NOTE: If you also require southbound (USA) clearance or international freight forwarding services, please contact our office at 1-800-991-4944 as these documents are not currently available online.

Step 4

Fax the completed GAA, Credit Application and the detailed outline of your products (covered in Step 2) or New Importer/Exporter Summary Information Sheet to our office at 1-800-633-8038.

Upon receipt of the foregoing data we will review your business information, determine the estimated monthly disbursements of duty/tax, verify your credit references and establish a new account on your behalf.
